Transmission Line Speakers

This project involves the design, build, testing and evaluation of a transmission line speaker or set of speakers. There may be several objectives when using transmission line speakers for example to produce a highly efficient electro-acoustic transducer or to produce a particular frequency range from a speaker of limited volume. This project is really a transfer of transmission line theory used in microwave systems into a nearly analogous acoustic system.

In this project the objective may be selected or I will provide one or more - probably conflicting - requirements. To get started try http://www.quarter-wave.com, http://www.t-linespeakers.org/ and "The Loudspeaker Design Cookbook" by Vance Dickason. The key textbook on the subject is "Acoustics" by Beranek. Articles in wireless world (later Electronics World) and papers in the Journal of the Audio Engineering Society will also provide information on specific topics. There are many examples on youtube etc. of varying quality.
